One Silent Woman

By Lev Azkhar

(Based on Luke 7: 36-50)

Finding the door open, the woman slipped into the house like a shadow. She knew that the Man was there, and she had to see him.

Looking around, she found him. He was sitting at the head of the table next to Simon the Pharisee, whom she knew.

Walking slowly, with her back touching the walls, she went around the table and came up behind the Man. She kept the face covered with her cloak and nobody seemed to notice her presence.

Finally, she let herself down on her knees, her face almost touching the floor, and saw Jesus feet. Her body shook with fear, but she went on.

Softly, she embraced Jesus Christ's feet and outpoured her crying, sobing. She cried and cried from the depths of her heart, unable to control herself.

The Lord Jesus rubbed his hand on her head repeatedly, but she didn't dare lift her face. She just wanted to be there at his feet. Not to say anything, not to look at his eyes, just to be there…and cry.

Jesus Christ looked at her tenderly and knew the burdens in her heart. He let the woman dry the tears off of his feet with her own hair. She showed him so much love, she had in her life so much sin…she needed in her heart so much forgiveness.

From under her robe, the woman got a bottle of perfume and opened it, then rolled up the tip of her hair and soaked it in the perfume to anoint Jesus Christ feet; slowly, lovingly.

When the fragrance ascended to the Lord Jesus, he knew it was the guilt and repentance of sin coming from the woman's heart. The Lord smiled.

Simon the Pharisee smiled too. He said to himself "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner"

The Lord Jesus spoke and taught the Pharisee something he ignored…that forgiveness of sins is by faith.

He said "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stoped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little."

The woman lifted her face slowly to make eye contact with the Lord Jesus. She found the most sweet and deep look ever seen in the world. We can imagine what the woman found in the look of Who is, in essence, all love and forgivness by grace.

Instantly, she was no more a sinner, she became a new creature, sinless, guiltless, pardoned by the look of Jesus Christ.

The Lord Jesus forgive her by His word. He said " Your sins are forgiven." The other guests at the table said "Who is this who even forgives sins"

The words that The Lord Jesus said to the woman, still resound in the ears of all of us who have believed in him. "Your faith has saved you…go in peace."
