This Week in the Word

We encourage the free and open discussion of the scripture as we seek to love God with all our Body, Mind and Strength.

This Week in the Word is a commentary on the adult Sabbath School lesson.  The SDB Helping Hand uses a six-year bible reading plan anchored by the Uniform Lesson Series.

What God has Blessed, no Man can Curse

5 Helpful tips to get you started with Bible Study

  • Before you start the study of the word, take time to pray - Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand and apply the scripture to your life.
    • Jesus said in Luke 11:28, "But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice." (NLT)
  • Read the text, read the text and read it again.
  • Use a bible dictionary to get a better grasp of the background - names, places, customs, etc.
  • Ask good questions about the text, think about your conclusions; resist the urge to  resort to other commentaries too quickly.
  • Talk to people who are committed to the word of God.
